Bluetooth Hubs Emerge

Startup Cassia Networks is within days of releasing an enterprise Bluetooth hub (above, left) after releasing a $149 consumer version (right) in January. The hubs turn the peer-to-peer Bluetooth into more of a network using proprietary software and an antenna array to support range up to 1,000 feet.
The company got its start in 2013 from serial entrepreneur Felix Zhao, who worked in a Cisco IoT group before forming Azalea, a Wi-Fi mesh company sold to Aruba Networks. One of Cassia’s early business customers is a care facility in China that uses the hubs to remotely monitor the vital signs of seniors wearing various Bluetooth monitors.
