Cassia Networks is pleased to announce the release of 2.0.3! Our team has been working hard to deliver new features and enhancements specifically designed to improve scalability, security and ease of use. This release applies to Cassia’s X1000, E1000 and S2000 gateways as well as Cassia’s IoT Access Controller (AC). Let’s highlight several key features.
Support for BLE Device Roaming
Cassia now offers BLE device roaming to enable Bluetooth mobility and improve ease of use. For most BLE devices to establish a reliable and secure connection, there are four pairing methods involved: Numeric Comparison, Just Works, Passkey Entry and Out of Band (OOB). Except for Just Works, the end-user will still need to complete the pairing process using these pairing methods. Cassia’s new BLE device roaming feature allows the end-user to pair the BLE device only once, allowing them to roam all the gateways under the AC without any additional pairing needed. The gateways that are managed by one AC can now act as a single gateway. This is incredibly valuable in a hospital environment where most medical devices require pairing and extra authentication to establish a secure connection.
Additionally, the end-user can connect to Bluetooth devices when auto-selection and roaming are enabled. The Cassia AC will then manage device roaming automatically. Currently, Cassia Networks has been granted one patent for this unique feature and another patent is pending.
Avoiding 2.4GHz WiFi Interference
Connectivity issues in certain environments such as a hospital can be problematic because of an overuse of the 2.4Ghz frequency band as well as the sheer number of devices trying to establish a reliable connection at the same time. To avoid 2.4GHz WiFi interference, this new feature allows the end-user to select specific channels to receive and broadcast among the 40 BLE available channels. See figures 1 and 2 below.

Statistics for API Calls
End users can now monitor and troubleshoot Cassia’s AC API calls and/or any related issues. The AC statistics and dashboard page will now show the number of successful and failed Cassia AC API calls. With this data, end-users can accurately monitor the health and performance of the entire system. The API statistics are logically grouped by time and function allowing for quick and easy troubleshooting. Figure 3 below illustrates this feature.

In addition to the key features mentioned above, Release 2.0.3 also includes enhanced cellular, security, UI, and scan filter support for improved end-to-end system performance and security.
