The potential of IoT in the Health Sector, H-IoT, is huge. According to Rajeb et al. (2023) the IoT applications are versatile with significant opportunities in both healthcare facilities as well in patients’ own homes. The deployment of IoT in remote health monitoring is beneficial to the patients as it allows for early detection, and prevention of illness and better diagnostics through continuous health monitoring. Moreover, medical services built on IoT are good for the overall hospital management as they “cut health service costs, improve efficiency, minimize equipment downtime and facilitate the allocation of scarce resources” (Rajeb et al. 2023).
The H-IoT technology is rapidly expanding encompassing sensors, software applications, and wireless gadgets in the healthcare industry with the main goal to “enhance patient outcomes, increase efficiency, and decrease expenses by offering real-time data, predictive analytics, and remote monitoring.” This technology can be widely applied to a variety of situations ranging from remote patient monitoring, telemedicine, intelligent hospital systems as well as monitoring workers’ health and safety.
Cassia Networks has worked with many partners on H-IoT projects. The real world applications proved efficient in improving health monitoring in senior homes, automating vital sign monitoring for both critically ill adult patients as well as severely ill children in specialized children’s hospitals, and in working with industrial partners to improve worker’s safety. In one instance, by creating digital hospital-wide blood glucose management solution, the rate of blood glucose compliance significantly improved and the work efficiency of medical staff increased. In another health facility, medical staff reported that they were able to be fully responsive to patients’ needs with the Cassia Networks system even when the resources and staff were limited. By doing vital sign monitoring continuously, the medical staff was able to identify patients at higher risk and place them closer to medical staff.
Cassia Networks has deployed a variety of BLE Gateways in hospital settings, nursing homes and industrial environments to meet a range of needs. Cassia Networks Bluetooth gateways E1000, X2000, and M1000 in conjunction with the IoT Access Controller create a powerful network management solution for a variety of clinical and industrial settings to continuously monitor health of patients and workers.
Cassia Networks Bluetooth Gateway E1000
- Extends Bluetooth Low Energy range up to 1,000 feet. (NOTE: Bluetooth 5.0 is not required.)
- Expands the number of Bluetooth Low Energy end devices simultaneously, bi-directionally paired and connected up to 40.
- Listens to hundreds of Bluetooth Low Energy end devices in broadcast mode.
- Several options for connecting to the Internet, include: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular 3G/4G via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) dongle.
- Attaches to the ceiling or wall with an included mounting kit, or placement on a shelf or counter space.
Cassia Networks Bluetooth Gateway X2000
- Long range Bluetooth gateway (indoor/outdoor), extends Bluetooth connectivity up to 400 meters with Bluetooth 4 and up to one kilometer for Bluetooth 5 in open space
- Expands the number of bi-directional pairing devices to 40 Bluetooth Low Energy devices
- Weatherproof, designed for outdoor use, IP66 rated
