In today’s digital world, organizations rely on data to make the right decisions to protect the scarce resources, improve the operational effectiveness, and introduce environmentally sustainable practices (Riaz 2022; Shamsuzzaman 2021). According to Chasin and colleagues “focusing on automation and optimization of existing processes is no longer sufficient to serve lucrative business areas in the increasingly digitalized future” (2020). Instead, the ability to develop innovative data-driven business models is essential for protecting shrinking margins.
Through our conversation with Alfa Laval’s Concept Project Manager, Anders Nyander, and Business Development Manager, Guillaume Germain, we learned that reliable data is key to their savvy decision making. Alfa Laval is a leading global provider in the areas of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling and it serves multiple industries ranging from energy and utilities, marine and transportation, biochemical and pharmaceutical industries.
While serving their clients, Alfa Laval strives to find the most efficient ways for product deployment. In order to successfully do that, they have to rely on reliable, accurate data. According to Germain and Nyander, relying on Cassia Networks X2000 Gateway for data generation has been a good strategic decision.
The Cassia X2000 Bluetooth gateway is optimized for industrial IoT and ideal for both indoor and outdoor Bluetooth IoT deployments in manufacturing facilities, shipyards and outdoor plant facilities. The real advantage of the X2000 gateway is its long range; it extends Bluetooth connectivity up to 400 meters with Bluetooth 4 and up to 1 kilometer for Bluetooth 5 in open space.
According to Nyander, the long range of X2000 allowed them to replace multiple short-range gateways, leading to a greater operational efficiency. The gateway was also easy to install, it was a simple “plug-and-play” solution. Most importantly, “the product allowed us to deliver what we want to deliver to our customers,” according to Germain. Alfa Laval is known for giving customers a lot of value. “By relying on data, we can accurately assess the situation in the field, and find the strategy to improve the overall performance,” added Germain.
Moreover, Alfa Laval has relentlessly focused on reducing CO2 emissions through their innovative practices. One of the ways to reduce CO2 emissions is by ensuring that heavy industrial machinery operates optimally. “To be able to do that, we need reliable, consistent data,” explained Germain.
In summary, in the era of digital transformation, organizations recognize the value of data for making decisions that are good for business and the reduction of environmental degradation. For more information about Cassia Networks and Alfa Laval visit:
